Removing loose fur before washing is a useful starting point. Always follow garment care labels and appliance instructions; no method guarantees a hair-free load.
1. Remove loose fur first
Shake out suitable items outdoors and use a clothing brush or lint tool appropriate for the fabric. Household upholstery rollers are not suitable for every garment, especially delicate fabrics and loose knits.
2. Check whether tumble drying is allowed
Only use a dryer if the care label permits it, and choose the specified settings. Do not apply a universal timed or heated cycle to all fabrics.
3. Check accessories before adding them
Laundry hair catchers differ in design and appliance compatibility. Only use an accessory in a washer or dryer if its manufacturer explicitly allows that use. Results vary; do not assume it will capture all loose fur.
4. Avoid overloading
Follow your appliance’s load limits so items have room to move. Wash heavily fur-covered pet bedding separately when appropriate.
5. Maintain the appliance
Clean the dryer lint filter as directed, and inspect the washer drum and door seal for trapped hair. Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions.
6. Store clean laundry separately
Keep washed items in closed storage away from pet resting areas. Pair laundry care with a grooming routine suited to your pet.
